Liposuction : IS IT WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY ?
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure in which fat is removed from the body using suction. It is not a weight loss tool.
Losing weight is not same as loosing fat.
It is a body contouring procedure that works best on patients who are already their ideal weight but have problem areas they wish to target for contouring.
The main purpose of liposuction is to reshape or improve the body contour of one or more areas of the body and not to reduce weight.
It is used in areas of localized obesity, more often on outer thighs, hips, upper arms and abdomen that do not respond to diet and exercise regimen.
People who expect liposuction to help them loose weight are usually disappointed.
If you gain weight after having liposuction, the body may store the new fat in a different place than where the fat was removed. The new fat usually grows deep inside the body and gets deposited in the liver or heart which might be harmful to the body.
